Thulite was first discovered in Norway in 1820 by Swedish mineralogist Anders Gustaf Ekeberg and was named after Thule—the ancient name used by classical geographers to describe the far northern lands, later identified with Norway. A variety of the mineral zoisite, thulite gets its distinctive pink coloration from manganese content within the crystal structure.
Collector’s Notes:
Thulite is prized by collectors for its unique mottled pink appearance, often showing black or white veining.
It is considered Norway’s national stone, mined primarily in the Lom and Leksvik regions.
Beyond its rarity, thulite holds symbolic associations with vitality, love, and emotional balance—making it as meaningful as it is beautiful.
The majority of vintage silver thulite jewelry is from the 1960s–70s. These pieces are increasingly sought after for their Scandinavian modernist aesthetic and collectible mineral origin.
A wonderful piece for both gemstone enthusiasts and vintage jewelry lovers, this ring captures a perfect blend of minimalist design and geological fascination.
